Great food, great service!!!!
by Anidore at Citysearch
I think this place is absolutely great. I have tried a number of Indian places in the neighborhood and this place is the best. The owner was very friendly, treated us well, and shared the history of the cuisine wiht us. Definitely going back again and again.
great food, but the manager does fuzzy math

check your bill when you go to this place. i went for the lunch buffet on memorial day and the owner charged us weekend prices, despite the sign saying that the prices were 8.95 for the weekend and 7.95 for m-f. you know...call me cheap, but if im off on a monday and i get to take advantage of the weekday lunch specials im going to. had the sign said that it was going to be weekend prices for memorial day fine. i see that. but the owner just charged me weekend prices and when i questioned him, we got into an altercation. he told me that it was a long weekend and that since memorial day wasnt a working day he was charging weekend prices. i pointed out to him that his sign clearly stated m-f prices and weekend prices. he didn't get that monday was different than a weekend. he said that he could change the signs to make me happy if a dollar meant that much to me, which just about made me lose my mind. normally, im not one to sweat a dollar or two, but when he said that, i just about lost it. luckily for him, he has great food, but seriously, when an owner challenges you publicly what are you going to do? consider other options for indian in the ues.
- Pros: great food
- Cons: manager is confrontational, has 4th grade math skills
Best Indian on the UES

We've been here many times - dine in and delivery. True, delivery takes a while, but this is becaue they are making everything from scratch!
We love everything on the menu.
Service is fantastic.
You must try this place!
- Pros: Great food
- Cons: Takes a while for delivery
Health risk!

CAVEAT: We ordered delivery, so this does not necessarily apply to those who choose to dine in.
The restaurant took 1h 20min to deliver. When the food arrived, it wasn't even hot anymore. They tried to pass beef off as "lamb" in the curry we ordered (don't know if this was a mistake or sheer dishonesty) and they gave us regular naan instead of cheese naan. The curry was one-dimensional in flavor. The lassis were ok, but the portion was definitely small for the price. The rice was greasy. And the final straw the really made us not only unhappy with this restaurant, but downright angry, is that we got sick from the food. Never again, no way!
- Pros: The naan was pretty good, even though it wasn't what we ordered
- Cons: Got sick from the food; "lamb" curry was bad (and actually made with beef); slow delivery
Great food (but slightly inconsistent)

The food at Dakshin is the best of its kind in the neighborhood. I love the Chef's Special, Mangolorean Fry and the appetizers are delicious. A few of the dishes are slightly bland, but if you order the right thing, it really hits the spot. Always my go to for Indian take-out (just make sure you order at least 30-40 minutes before you want to eat because it takes a while).
- Pros: Chef's Special, Appetizers
- Cons: Slow delivery
Inferior Indian food

I visited Dakshin because the good reviews it had on this and other websites. While I liked the small interior and simple ambiance, I did not enjoy the food. The chicken tikka masala, my favorite Indian dish, was bland and in a sauce reminiscent of canned tomato soup. I prefer this dish because it is not too spicy, but Dakshin's version had the opposite problem -- it had hardly any flavor.

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Dakshin. The food was very tasty, the service was prompt, and although it is a small place, the atmosphere was great. I highly recommend Dakshin.
- Pros: The food was incredible. The service was prompt. The lamb vindaloo...delicious.

I started out with a Bombay beer which was big enough for two. For dinner I had the chicken tikka-masala and some garlic naan. MMmmm... it was delicious. Service was slow, but the people were friendly. It's a nice place to relax and have conversation. I can't wait to go back.
- Pros: Great food, Friendly staff
- Cons: Slow service
Great Indian Food and Friendly Management

Me and my girlfriend had dinner their about two weeks ago. It was great food. Started off with a nice tall bombay beer. I recommend the Shami Kabob appetizers. Their two round friend lamb kabobs. Throw alittle mint chutney on them, and coulda swore that my mom was in the kitchen cooking them up. For dinner I got their sampler platter. (look for it its not that noticeable on the menu) I got daal, and chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, lamb vindaloo, with some other masalas and rice and bread. They also offer a strictly vegetarian sampler. If you like good Indian food, it definetely worth stopping by.
- Pros: Good Food, Friendly manager
Great Buffet
by kittyinsoho at Citysearch
Excellent lunch buffet for only $6.95. We always go there on the weekends and leave extremely full and satisfied. The selection changes frequently but the basic dishes are always available. Just remember not to wear your best clothes b/c you'll come out smelling like Indian food... but it's well worth it!
- Pros: inexpensive, variety of food
