After six years, the celebrated taste-makers Edwynn Houk and Barry Friedman, his longtime client, have resolved their joint partnership in the photography powerhouse, Houk Friedman. Friedman runs an art and furniture gallery, Barry Friedman Ltd., and Houk has reopened in this new location to continue his mission of showing masterpieces of black-and-white photography. At the beginning of the '90s, Houk moved his 10-year-old Chicago gallery to New York. An established authority and leading dealer known primarily for his extensive vintage holdings from the '20s and '30s, Houk added Friedman's interest in avant-garde European to the holdings. Houk's new gallery features the same legendary artists and substantial (albeit small) group of contemporary artists (He picked up Sally Mann in Chicago when she was on the cusp of fame.) and Russian avant-gardists.
