Plain and Simple but so Greek

by elsushi921 at Citysearch

This place loks like a blue monster on the outside, you almost don't want to go in, but force yourself. it was a pleasant surprise, like Shulie on newnewyorker com told me its not about the appearances, its all about the food and that it was, very fresh fish and large portions and low prices. BRING CASH no credit cards, the service was slow and also they only had Greek coffee, thats it!

Fresh delicious seafood. give the appetizers a try!

by zongorocozon at Citysearch

Seafood is super fresh, and every time there's something new. If you don't know which fish to get, sea bass is always a good choice. The appetizers are top notch too, give them a try (the scallops, octopus, soft shell crabs, and sausages are almost heavenly). Well worth the trip to astoria!

A garish cult favorite in Astoria that serves some of the freshest fish around.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Elias Corner traded some of that '70s outer-borough Greek-kitchen charm for a bigger dining room when it moved across 31st Street to its present digs--an interior decorator's turquoise nightmare. But the room is probably three times larger than the old one, so the wait, prohibitive on weekends in the past, is considerably shorter.

The Food
The line still forms at the door, in full view of a refrigerated deli counter that serves as the evening's menu: What's in the fridge is what's for dinner. Noteworthy choices on a recent visit included red snapper, as well as the faintly sweet St. Peter's Fish--another name for tilapia--imported from Israel. Steaks, lamb chops and chicken kabobs are also served, but it's unquestionably the grilled fish that gets top billing.

Yummy fresh fish

by gogleplextillion at Citysearch

Having lived on a boat for a portion of my life, I am very picky about fish. This place lived up to my expectations. Very fresh and delicious. I don't see what everyone is talking about with the high prices. My friend and I split an appetizer and entree and each had a beer, and the entire bill was $25. The grilled octopus was one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had. I recently ordered the same dish at Pastis for about 3 times the price and it wasn't as good.

  • Pros: Great fresh fish, the freshest around
  • Cons: no menu, but that can work to YOUR advantage or THEIRS - be smart

Big Disappointment

by vanesssa at Citysearch

This was an awful restaurant. The food was tasteless and waitress seemed as though she was going out of her way to be rude and unhelpful. The food was also overpriced and you dont know the cost of anything until you see the bill - since they dont give you a menu. Although the outside seating is nice, that is the only positive thing I can say about the place. There are numerous other Greek restaurants in Astoria that have reasonable prices, excellent tasty food, outside seating and try to make you feel like a welcomed guest.

  • Cons: Overpriced tasteless food

If you like bad service and mediocre overpriced food, this place is for you!

by clegname at Citysearch

Despite the fact that I love seafood and live in Astoria, I will never go here again. The waittress was nasty ("Pay attention because I will not say this again!" then she read us the specials). Although the food was fresh, the preparation was mediocre at best. It was also very overpriced and they did not take credit cards. The nasty waittress recommended a bottle of wine, which we ordered. It reminded me of wine I had once purchased from a $1 bargain bin. Don't waste your money!

  • Pros: outside seating
  • Cons: everything but the outside seating

Huge portions at cheap prices

by stephanie heintzeler at Citysearch

I was at Elias Corner in a group of 5 and was impressed by the very friendly service and good food. We ordered fish, meats and vegetables for the table and that made it really cheap! Everybody had a little bit of everything... and the dessert was on the house!

I will definitely come back!

  • Pros: cheap, great fish and meat, relaxed athmosphere
  • Cons: Ugly interior

Good Fish but high prices

by jen4498 at Citysearch

They have no menu, which is a bit unnerving. Waiter was decent, but she did seem to be in a hurry. She went through the list of fish so fast we had to ask her to repeat some items. I suggest knowing what fish you like and asking if they have it. All fish are grilled with olive oil and basic herbs. The size of the fish are impressive. I had a porgy ($16) and my friend ordered a flounder ($18). We ordered a side of broccoli ($5) to share. Also ordered the soft shell crabs ($18) as an appetizer. They were two whole medium-size crabs served in a butter garlic sauce, delicious, had we known the price probably would not have ordered it. In all the food is good but pricey. Service is no frills. Its really just about getting you seated and fed. Very old world style.

  • Pros: Good seafood
  • Cons: Expensive, No menu, Cash Only

Extremely Rude

by pebbles06 at Citysearch

I will never set foot in this restaurant again. The waitress and manager were so unbelievably rude that we got up and left before we even ordered. After being told (not asked) by our waitress that we (2 people) had to get up and move from our 4-person table to a small table in the corner with one inch from the next party, we asked to speak to the manager to get "permission" to sit at a normal table. There were, after all, no other people waiting to be sat, and there were other open tables. The manager was even worse, speaking to us like we were children being told what to do. He even had the nerve to put his hand in my face to get me to stop talking. I've never been treated with such disrespect at a restaurant.

  • Cons: Disrespectful, Rude
