Burger at the Bar
by chefnap01
The bartender ruined my experience. He was rude and pretentious. He told me I had to be patient he was busy when he avoided giving me my change for 10 minutes.
- Pros: Decent Burger
- Cons: Obnoxious Bartender
Great brunch spot!
by Vanny66
I love going here for brunch, especially when the weather is nice enough to allow outdoor seating. The mimosas are fantastic, and I've never been disappointed with a dish here. Sure, the service is a bit slow, but I find that to be the case with most places in Astoria, so it doesn't bother me at all.
Cool Spot in Astoria

I love to come to this place and write. It has a very Bohemian feel, and a cute decor. The menu is good if a little overpriced, and the food does take a while to come out. I like it more as a coffee shop than as a restaurant, but my best friend and I tend to frequent it once and a while brunch. Over all, I'm a fan.
- Pros: Ambiance, great coffee
- Cons: slow service
Used customer for sale!
by markofsummer
This place is just plane terrible when it comes to prices and service. Do NOT go when your STARVING for the wait in food reaches almost an hour at busy times. The music is not what it used to be, and
the environment has changed a alot in terms of customers and staff . Weekends they do have some good brunch, but wow no free mimosa or coffee at such a high price IN Astoria?
No thanks... 2 meals 2 cocktails 1 dessert = 60 dollars!!! and you thought manhattan was expensive..
You'll find better prices at a SLEW of other cafe bars in the area..
Good for drinks, bad for food

If you order food here, you'll have to wait 60-90 minutes to get it--even if the place isn't busy and the dish isn't complicated--and what you get won't be worth the wait. Stick to drinks only here.
- Pros: Fun atmosphere, good drinks
- Cons: Food and food service
Cool, LayedBack, Relaxed and Friendly
by nymuseums
I recently wandered into this bar for a late night/early morning bevvy or two when visiting a pal who lives in el Barrio. It has some cool-looking retro decor, especially the stained-glass window.
The bar staff were attentive and friendly, as were the couple of locals we shared some chat with.
If the these girls are representative of the regular clientele (attractive, confident and smart) then Cafe Bar has a lot going for it (apart from its name): people make the place.
love it and the staff are excellant

the cafe must be the best place in Ny to be anytime of the day from morning coffee with chris to lunch, bunch and after work there is always some the you know and the staff are good people, but it might take one or two visits to see it. and the food is grate 10 out of 10 to monica and the team
Service has really improved!

I moved out of Astoria a few years ago and haven't been to Cafe Bar in a while.
I have always enjoyed the place...as have my friends.
We never particularly cared for the waitstaff.
I went back a few weeks ago and I have to say that it's still a fabulous place AND the staff are super friendly and attentive now :)
Kudos to Cafe Bar owners for hiring some nice folks :)
Behind a generic moniker lies a groovy hipster hangout.

In Short
The devoted local crowd appreciates the bar's eclectic eats, extensive cocktail selection and funky interior. The mismatched, space-age decor--chrome lighting fixtures, beaded curtains, Lucite chairs--is culled from area flea markets, second-hand stores and even the street, while owner Monica Contantinides encourages her staff to contribute its own aesthetic sensibilities. During the day, the emphasis is on the menu of salads, sandwiches, wraps and crepes, with a Mediterranean flare. At night, it transforms into the bar.
