This is a great bar to catch various styles of music being spun. You never know what to expect in the music scene which keeps each visit a bit fresh and alive. The bar offers the standard bottles with nothing to really make them stand out, but the staff is funky and fun.
Pros: dj's, good vibe

On the scale of "are you kidding me," these guys never stop putting together amazing shows with an equally amazing crew! Rocking, friendly, down to earth...they know their stuff. Hot DJs, hot bands...trivia, live band karaoke...this place has it all, no matter when you go. And, did I mention they rock?
Pros: Music, Friendly staff, real people
Cons: parking can be tight

Yr in the Slope? Commonwealth. Williamsburg? Trash. Cobble/Boerum/Heights/CG? Magnetics!!! Staff is awesome! Bourbon selection! Juke! Specials, BBQs, events. Superior neighborhood and music scene booster. Great great place to see bands. The musicians are obviously having a good time playing in a place they love. Gigs are earlyish too so you can still chat and get yr drink on after with yr honey. In fact, I had my first date w/my girlfriend there!
Pros: Sex, drinks, rock n roll
Cons: it's not in my nabe!

...every corner of Brooklyn. Magnetic Field is cozy, friendly, perfect for aging punkers who would rather not fight their way to the bar. Hip, but not hipster. It's like a support group for 27-37 year olds who are more Teenage Fanclub than teenaged, more American Splendor than American Pie. Fun & essential.
Pros: Sparkle Motion night, friendly bartenders, comfy room

Great barkeeps, always friendly, and strangely lit pool table. THe crowd and music is always different- but it's friendly enuf to check out any night.
Pros: booths, good barkeeps, cool music

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this place in the winter of 2002. Walking into Magnetic Field you are first hit with an elegant bar. the music system is excellent. on your right you will see a DJ booth on which DJs spin Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. They also have live music on Saturdays. The music and the DJs are pretty solid. Live music always brings in a good crowd. The bar itself is staffed by some really great people, including the owners who are always glad to greet you with a smile and a drink after a hard day's work. The Pool table is also a geat. It is in a well lit, raised area in the back that doubles as the stage. The drinks selection is incredible, from cheap beer to aged single malts and Tequillas. The Field is sure to please.
Pros: selection, music, atmosphere
Cons: food, dancing

All thought I have nothing totally negative to say about this bar, I would like to take some time to let readers know that this place is not the #1 new bar in New York City. I had to find this out the hard way, taking my girlfriend their on her birthday. We were surprised to see such a dull, and in some ways nerdy type of bar. The crowed was lame, and the DJ followed suite. The bar was rather nice and the place could be really nice and over all it was not a horrible experience but this is definitely not New Yorks finest new spot!

Magnetic Fields is pleasant and fun, drenched in good vibes and atmosphere and style but not the least bit pretentious. The music is a big pull for me, great DJ's and Rock n Roll shows are still few and far between in NY... All that along with reasonable prices, good sound and a fun clientele make Magnetic Fields a favorite.

Proprieter owned makes the difference here. It is run by a bunch of folks who designed a place they would like to hang out in and meet their own friends. Atmosphere reflects this friendly, let's talk, maybe listen to some music attitiude.
