My girlfriend and I went into Music Matters tonight to look at the used LP's and when we left without buying something the owner, I assume, completely unprovoked told us to find a more mainstream record store on 5th Avenue and flipped us off. Are you kidding me? It didn't seem like a bad store, but obviously the staff/owner is in a bad/sad place. It's especially funny that he finds the store non-mainstream. Yea, that's the first time I've seen The National or Neutral Milk Hotel LP's in a record shop. Give me a break.
Pros: Carries indie labels
Cons: Rude

I loved record stores as a kid and still do as an adult. When I was younger, I'd have given anything to live a few blocks from a record store, the closest was about 50 blocks away. But that didn't stop me from going there constantly. This being the age of dying record stores, I really wished that this place would be better. Flat out, Music Matters' high prices would be justifiable if the people working there were nicer. Take your business to Sounds on St. Marks Place. The people there aren't any better, but at least the prices are.

This is a great music store, they have an excellent selection and as the previous review stated the owner is friendly and knowledgeable. I shop here for most of my music.
Pros: If they don't have something you're looking for they'll order it.
Cons: They don't have everything.

I love this place. The guy who owns it is friendly and knowledgeable about music, prices are reasonable and if he doesn't have it, he'll order it for you. A park slope institution!
