Four years ago I experienced severe lower back pain. The pain was debilitating. Diagnostic imaging confirmed that I had several herniated discs in my lumbar spine. I was advised to pursue conservative treatment. One recommendation was to start physical therapy. I contacted a close friend for a recommendation. My friend had sustained a physical injury and was seeing a physical therapist. Upon hearing of my condition she exclaimed, “You have to see Boris. If anyone can help you it is him.” I immediately contacted Boris Gilzon. At my first visit I was impressed by the staff, their level of professionalism and ease with which they gathered necessary information. In my initial meeting with Mr. Gilzon he conducted a through evaluation . I was impressed by Mr. Gilzon’s level of knowledge, kindness and professional demeanor. He reviewed the MRI films, correlating my clinical symptoms, while at the same time pointing out the pathology as seen in the images of my lumbar spine. Mr. Gilzon and his staff took an active interest in my care, attempting to make me feel as comfortable as possible, when working with me. They developed a treatment plan, with modifications as warranted, in an effort to help me. Mr. Gilzon took the time to advise me of other activities which would help strengthen my lower back. He recommended that I swim. I was apprehensive, however I began to swim, as I fully trusted Mr. Gilzon’s judgment. I remember one particular weekend. I ran into Mr.Gilzon at the pool. He kindly took the time to watch me in the water, noted my movement and offered suggestions to alter my technique, thus assuring that I would not hurt myself. I just want to say that I have continued in physical therapy at Park Sports to this day. I consider myself to be lucky to have come upon such professional, kind and compassionate individuals. All the staff is forever offering assistance, being mindful of my condition and always eager to help.

I guess it has to do with getting older, but in the last couple of years I've had more ailments than I could shake a stick at. Which is exactly what I'd like to do to many of the medical personnel this has brought me to. A very happy exception are the the skilled and experienced people at Park Sports (along with my GP, about whom I am also going to write a glowing review). I was referred to this clinic for a neck and head pain issue which has gone on for some time, with no definite diagnosis. I found my reception at the clinic to be warm and sympathetic despite the lack of clear-cut profile I knew I presented. Boris turned out to be a great listener, asking all the right questions and allowing me to answer at length without interruptions. He was clearly knowledgeable and experienced in this area, which put me further at ease, and during the sessions turned out to have a sure touch. I worked also with Svetlana on daily routines. She is a terrific teacher; I appreciated walking away knowing just how to continue at home. In addition to her own treatments, she was able to offer as options a whole host of other treatment possibilities for chronic pain, all of which are available in the NY area. I've had good results with Park Sports and haven't looked into any of them, but I found it positive that Svetlana was widely read and active in her specialty area. I'm being a good boy and doing my home routines, but if anything else arises I won't hesitate to ask for a reference to Boris and Svetlana for treatment. Finally, back to stick shaking for a minute. I know as much as anyone that when you are in pain and can't seem to get relief, the frustration level is high. Let's be honest: when this happens our temptation is to lash out at the medical profession generally. So do the right thing: write down the good experiences, too, as I'm doing here with Park Sports.

Pros: Experienced, very knowledgeable

Cons: Manhattan office would be nice.

I am now undergoing therapy for my third fracture. I have returned to Park Sports physical therapy because of their professionalism and caring. I am a doctor. I teach residents in training in Manhattan and have a private practice in Staten Island. I am extremely sensitive to people measuring health care according to its address. I attended 2 other facilities before finding Park Sports. One was in Manhattan on 34th St and the other was in Brooklyn. Neither of them approached the level of care I have received at Park Sports. I think that I am more critical than the average consumer by nature and being a physician I expect a higher standard of care. Boris and Svetlana will give you all the time that you need. I have been going there since 2003 and have never been rushed. I jokingly refer to their facility occasionally as "The Spa". It is comforting and inviting. Privacy is maintained and they are sensitive to personal likes and dislikes. You can even choose your own mood music. Because of their interests in competitive sports training as well as dance and pilates they use a lot of innovative methods to acheive your goals besides the routine exercises. I heartily recommend Park Sports Physical therapy.

Pros: individualized attention

Cons: parking but they are close to the subway and bus lines

I can sum it up by saying, you get what you pay for. I initially chose Park Sports because they had the lowest consultation fee - $130 as opposed to $180/$200 in Manhattan. At the time I booked my appointment I didn't have health insurance. I was seeking physical therapy because of a running related knee injury. I can't say much of the facilities like the last reviewer commented, as my appointment was at their 6th Avenue/21st St location. It was pretty run down, nothing like the office featured on their website. Equipment looked dated. I met with Boris who accurately diagnosed my problem. And then I was off to do exercises. He stayed with me for about 2/3rds of the time I was there, while simultaneously working with another patient. I wasn't receiving the individual care that I'm accustomed to receiving with prior physical therapists I worked with. At the end of my session, my knees were iced and plugged into an electrical impulse machine. Some other person unplugged me, not Boris. And then I was left to fend for myself. Boris never checked in on me. I had to find him and ask him if we were done/through? What irks me the most is that I was paying for this session out of my own pocket. Not with insurance money, but with my own money. In my experience with paying out of pocket for health-related services, you get a higher level of care because the service provider knows you are paying for it and not some big insurance company. Sadly, I do not recommend this place for physical therapy. You are better off going to Manhattan for care. I really wanted to like it here because they are the local Brooklyn guys. If you like feeling you're in a factory, you've found your place. If not, don't even bother with this place. Their impersonal and lack of customer services is less than desirable. FYI, I wrote an email to Boris expressing my dissatisfaction.. I never received a response back. That just goes to show you how much they really care about their patients.

Pros: If you live next door, this is conveneint for you.

Cons: Service, Care, Facilities.

I fractured my ankle and attended Park Sports Physical therapy after the cast was removed. Both Boris and Svetlana treated me. Both were incredibly professional and got me back on feet really quickly. Sure, they may have given me some exercises to complete on my own but they were great exercises and I didnt feel the need to be babysat for each entire exercise - a personal trainer costs $85 per hour and you get none back on insurance - for therapy I just had to pay my copay. I felt I was in extremely knowledgeable hands and would recommend it to anyone who needs therapy - by the way it is a lovely office and they have a Pilates reformer which I did some great ankle exercises on!

Pros: Nice space great therapists

Cons: difficult parking
